a b s t r a c tCloudcomputingisapowerfultechnologytoperformmassive-scaleandcomplexcomputing.Iteliminatestheneedtomaintainexpensivecomputinghardware,dedicatedspace,andsoftware.Massivegrowthinthescaleofdataorbigdatageneratedthroughcloud computinghasbeenobserved.Addressingbigdataisachallengingandtime-demandingtaskthatrequiresalargecomputationalinfrastructuretoensuresuccessfuldata processingandanalysis.Theriseofbigdataincloudcomputingisreviewedinthisstudy.Thedefinition,characteristics,andclassificationofbigdataalongwithsomediscussionsoncloudcomputingareintroduced.Therelationshipbetweenbigdataandcloud computing,bigdatastoragesystems,andHadooptechnologyarealsodiscussed.Furthermore, researchchallengesareinvestigated,withfocusonscalability,availability,data integrity,datatransformation,dataquality,dataheterogeneity,privacy,legalandregulatory issues,andgovernance.Lastly,openresearchissuesthatrequiresubstantialresearch effortsaresummarized.
